Job Summary / Scope
The successful candidate will provide support and continual improvement direction for the Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process at POM Group’s facility in Auburn Hills. This process engineer will be responsible for DMD process runs, customer training during DMD system installation, following support activities and eventually DMD technician supervision. This Process engineer will report to the Process & Applications Development Manager.
Daily Responsibilities:
Operation of Robot or
CNC based DMD systems involving fixtures, alignment, set up and part programming on the machine to process customer and/or test parts as per job instructions
Provide shop floor personnel with manufacturing/troubleshooting assistance and expertise through regular contact with supervision
Drive improvement initiatives within the department to increase process and work efficiency
Interface with Supervisors, Operators and Customers to resolve technical problems
Arrange demonstrations of DMD systems and applications capabilities, for customer visits
DMD system installation, customer training and field support as needed
Design, draft and modify machine components of DMD systems
Any other relevant task as directed by the supervisor
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in engineering (Mechanical/ Materials/ Electrical systems and controls)
Working experience with laser material processing systems, preferably laser cladding / welding on CNC or Robot platform
Minimum 3 years of related experience in a job shop environment
Experience with UG modeling, AutoCAD, statistical tools is desirable and proficiency with MS office is required
Must be field or "hands on" oriented and must have ability to work without any supervision
Ability to travel domestically and internationally (about 10% of time in a year)
Excellent communication skills
Physical Demands
Use of fork-lift to handle process gas cylinders and big customer parts
Lifting up to 40 lbs sporadically during day

Responsibilities:
Responsible for engineering related to specific projects, including design layout and quotation. Develop imaginative, thorough, practical and cost effective solutions for difficult problems. Manage outsourcing of mechanical design & engineering.
Qualifications:
Requires BS/MS in ME, plus minimum 5 years related experience in mechanical design of multi-axis CNC or Robotic Systems for industrial use; proficiency in AutoCAD and Unigraphics; experienced project mgr; supplier management skills; exp. with optical systems desired.
